For Organizations:
With our US and Canada-based partner schools and organizations, volunteers are immersed in service work, nature and local culture in the cradle of the Mayan civilization.
Journeys in Conservation coordinates and operates sustainable development, environmental, and humanitarian group volunteer service trips to northern Guatemala’s Maya Biosphere Reserve, approximately 20 miles north of the regional capital Flores, Petén, Guatemala. Journeys last 1-2 weeks with small groups of volunteers often with chaperones. An experienced on-the-ground trip leader and operations team handle day-to-day volunteer projects, activities, meals, accommodations, and logistics to ensure each group leaves the most lasting impacts while creating unique cross-cultural connections and memories that will last a lifetime. More than simply a working holiday, our Journeys are educational and cultural experiences; so we make a point to learn about local customs and to live like Guatemalans: eating rice, beans, tortillas, and colorful fruits; swimming in the lake to cool off from the tropical heat; and after a full day of activity, experiencing the sounds of the rainforest e.g. treefrogs, cicadas, and even howler monkeys!
